First Grid Connection of Unit 4 in Phase II of Guangdong Qingyuan Power Plant Achieved in One Attempt

Unit 4 of the 2×1000 MW expansion project of Guangdong Qingyuan Power Plant completed its first grid connection successfully in one attempt. All systems of the unit operated stably with excellent performance parameters. It took a crucial step forward before the 168-hour full-load trial operation and laid a solid foundation for the project to be put into operation with high standards and quality.

The expansion project of Qingyuan Power Plant designed to construct two 1,000 MW ultra-supercritical double-reheat coal-fired units, equipped with full-process flue gas purification devices to achieve near-zero emissions. It served as a vivid practice of coal-fired power transition towards “high efficiency, low carbon and flexibility”.

To ensure the success of the grid connection in one attempt, the power plant systematically summarized the commissioning and operation experience of Unit 3, coordinated all participating construction units, and strictly implemented the standardized commissioning process. After obtaining the grid connection review opinion, a team of over 100 personnel collaborated on the project. 78 subsystems were put into operation in an orderly manner, and 19 overall start-up inspections achieved a 100% qualification rate. This ensured precise control of key parameters covering voltage, frequency and phase during the grid connection. Through the Dynamic Hidden Danger Elimination Campaign and the dual-track training model of “simulation + on-site operation”, combined with the 24-hour on-site duty system of professional teams, the grid connection process was completed with zero errors and zero delays.

Upon completion and operation of the Phase II project, the four 1,000 MW double-reheat units of the power plant would generate over 20 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. As an important power source support for the main channel of the West-East Power Transmission Project, the project would significantly enhance the power supply reliability of the regional power grid. It would provide stable guarantee for industrial upgrading and power security in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and play a vital role in optimizing the regional energy structure, facilitating the achievement of the “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” goals and boosting the development of eastern, western and northern Guangdong.
