On October 24, Huanghua Port won the APSN Green Port Award by APEC Port Services Network (APSN) again during the 2024 Green Port Award System (GPAS) ceremony held at the APSN Forum on Green Shipping Corridors in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
As China’s largest coal shipment port, Huanghua Port has been upholding the philosophy that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, promoting the construction of a green, smart, efficient, and safe port. Since first receiving APSN Green Port Award in 2021, the Port has taken measures including large-scale use of solar power and green electricity, application of shore power and green lighting throughout the port and the establishment of an ecological water system featuring “two lakes and three wetlands”, achieving intelligent and refined control over the port environment. The Port has independently developed key technologies including an essential long-term dust suppression system and a belt conveyor cleaning device to control coal dust at its source and enhance the port’s environmental quality. Aiming to become a “zero-carbon port”, Huanghua Port has made shore power accessible to all berths, and partnered with specialized agencies to develop photovoltaic power projects. The Port has also facilitated the application of its green and energy-saving port vehicle and initiated research and deployment of new-energy tugboats, further promoting energy-saving modifications and equipment upgrades to improve the utilization of new energy. Under its “zero-waste port” pilot demonstration project, Huanghua Port has streamlined port operation process to reduce waste production and explored resource utilization of waste resulting in substantial environmental benefits. The Port plays a demonstrative and leading role in fostering port exchanges and green development among Asia-Pacific ports, providing a reference for other ports and establishing a benchmark for solid waste treatment.
