Recently, the China Electricity Council announced that the project of CHN Energy Yuedian Taishan Power Generation Co., Ltd. Research and Engineering Demonstration on Upgrade Technology of 600MW Subcritical Wet Cooling Unit, has passed evaluation, receiving recognition as an international leading achievement. This project focuses on developing innovative, efficient and flexible technology routes for upgrades in subcritical units, aiming to establish a benchmark for “the joint operation of three types of technical reforms”. The demonstration project marks the creation of the world’s first 630MW, 600°C subcritical wet-cooling unit’s comprehensive cross-generational efficiency improvement transformation.
The project upgraded the main and reheat steam parameters of a 600MW subcritical wet-cooling unit from 16.7 MPa/537°C/537°C to 17 MPa/600°C/600°C, increasing the unit’s capacity to 630MW. Turbine, boiler, generator, and auxiliary equipment were included in supporting retrofits. Key innovations include the Company’s pioneering elevation of a 600MW subcritical wet-cooling unit’s temperature to the 600°C level for the first time. It also introduced groundbreaking technologies including boiler steam water process reengineering, turbine integrated optimization, non-combustion 20% depth peak regulation, enabling a cross-generational upgrade for subcritical wet-cooling units. Following the upgrade, Unit 2 operates with higher efficiency and flexibility under full-load conditions and delivers notable performance in energy conservation, consumption reduction and emission reduction, addressing the long-standing challenges of low efficiency and high energy consumption in subcritical units while improving equipment reliability.
The project has developed a comprehensive set of innovative technologies and engineering demonstration practices for upgrading the parameters of subcritical units, setting a benchmark for the energy-saving transformation of 300MW and 600MW subcritical units, thus holding significant demonstration value for advancing the high-quality development of thermal power enterprises.
