On August 6, China’s first 220-tonne pure electric mining dump truck transformation project completed overall assembling at Yanbao Energy’s Baorixile Open-pit Coal Mine to commence the commissioning phase, marking a significant breakthrough in the application of pure electric technology for 220-tonne mining dump trucks in the country.

Yanbao Energy’s Baorixile Coal Mine currently boasts 35 220-tonne dump trucks, consuming over 16 million liters of diesel annually. The high fuel costs, along with maintenance and repair expenses, coupled with the environmental impact of emissions, prompted Yanbao Energy to expedite the development of a new energy system. To achieve the efficient and sustainable use of resources, Yanbao Energy has launched the pure electric transformation of 220-tonne mining dump trucks. The project involved the transformation of a 220-tonne dump truck chassis of the SF33900 model, with an aim to replace the diesel engine with a lithium iron phosphate battery system to achieve full electric drive. To ensure stable operation in extremely cold conditions, a customized battery thermal management system was developed, along with a domestically-produced AC control cabinet. This system efficiently controls auxiliary equipment such as the ventilation, hydraulic, and air conditioning systems. Moreover, a 3-MW charging station was installed, enabling the vehicle’s batteries to be fully charged within an hour and continuous operation of over 8 hours to maintain high work efficiency.

Compared to traditional diesel vehicles, the pure electric dump truck reduces energy costs by 40% and cuts carbon emissions by 800 tonnes per vehicle annually. Meanwhile, it saves approximately 1.5 million yuan per year in operating costs compared to conventional diesel dump trucks of the same capacity.
