On April 19, the onshore power pilot project for building China’s strength in transportation, developed by China Energy Shipping Development Company (CESDC), passed the acceptance inspection. The project has realized prominent achievements in innovation and technological research and shown great demonstrative and duplication value. It is crucial for promoting stable onshore power supply for vessels.

To implement the basic national strategy of saving energy and reducing emissions, achieve the goal of air pollution prevention and control, and practice the arrangements on building an ecological civilization, CESDC took the lead to carry out research and development of onshore power equipment in 2012. The outcomes of the project were put into trial use on the ship Shenhua-501, making it China’s first bulk freighter to earn class notation with additional high-voltage character. The company has taken active actions to apply research results and introduce shipborne onshore power systems in its fleet. So far, it has increased onshore power systems to all the 61 vessels it owns, achieving a 100% coverage. It has become common for its vessels to use onshore power when berthing, with a connection rate exceeding 90% at its own ports.
