Recently, Shangwan Mine of Shendong Coal added “protective” devices to its conveyor belt, reducing operational errors caused by heavy burden of coal transportation and extra moisture and enhancing the operational efficiency of the conveyor belt.

As the main transport system of the coal mine, the conveyor belt is 20,000 meters long, equipped with more than 400 protective devices. Any protective maneuver will cause shutdown of the conveyor belt, thus affecting the orderly operation of the longwall face. Operational errors for the protection of the conveyor belt contribute to more than 95% of shutdowns of the main coal transport system. Through technical upgrading, such as adding protective devices to smoke sensors as well as rupture, deviation and locking prevention devices, the No.1 coal transport team managed to avoid shutdowns caused by operational errors while ensuring the functionality of protective maneuvers in abnormal conditions.

“Through upgrading the protective devices of the conveyor belt, we not only greatly reduce operational errors but also relieve the damage of moisture and coal blocks to protective devices,” said Zhao Gang, head of the No.1 coal transport team in Shangwan Mine. “After the upgrading of the protective devices, the conveyor belt achieved zero shutdown within a month, not only considerably enhancing the overall efficiency of the conveyor belt but also guaranteeing stable energy supply.”
