On September 28, the Ministry of Transport convened the Conference on Accelerating the Building of a Country with Great Transport Strength in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The conference commended 12 units and 40 tasks distinguished for their outstanding performance in pilot initiatives aimed at building a country with great transport strength. Among these, China Shenhua’s Exploration of Bidirectional Heavy-haul Transportation was honored as an outstanding pilot task.

The Company was approved for a national pilot project of “a country with great transport strength” in June 2021. On January 24, 2025, the Exploration of Bidirectional Heavy-haul Transportation successfully passed the acceptance inspection by the Ministry of Transport, receiving an “excellent” rating. On July 22, the project team was awarded the 2024 Zhan Tianyou Railway S&T Award – CHN Energy Special Prize for Heavy-haul Transport Technology. Additionally, its advanced practices were included in the CHN Energy’s Country with Great Transport Strength Pilot Achievements Promotion Catalog (Second Batch).

Since the implementation of the pilot task, China Shenhua has positioned itself to develop a multifunctional, comprehensive, and modern energy transport corridor. Leveraging the opportunity presented by the country with great transport strength pilot task, the Company innovatively proposed a regularized reverse transportation model for heavy-haul railways and a logistics agglomeration development model for the new era. These efforts culminated in an integrated bidirectional heavy-haul transportation solution encompassing railways, ports, and shipping, significantly enhancing the service capacity of bidirectional heavy-haul transport. The Company has realized regular operations on three bidirectional heavy-haul routes centered on the hubs of Huanghua, Tianjin, and Longkou, achieving an annual freight volume of over 20 million tonnes through modal shift from road to rail. Furthermore, an integrated management and control system for bidirectional heavy-haul transport was established, increasing the comprehensive utilization efficiency of owned railways and ports by more than 10%. The initiative has also realized large-scale “double pendulum” operations of railways, ports, and shipping, culminating in a replicable model and advanced experience for integrated bidirectional heavy-haul transport.
