Guangdong Huizhou Power Plant’s Unit 4 Gas Turbine Generator of Phase II Achieved Successful Grid Connection at the First Attempt

At 3:16 PM on October 3, loud applause echoed through the Phase II’s central control room of the Guangdong Huizhou Power Plant as Unit 4 gas turbine generator was successfully connected to the grid at the first attempt, marking the success of another key milestone in the construction of the plant’s second phase.

The Phase II of Huizhou Power Plant consists of 2×500 MW gas-fired cogeneration units, serving as the company’s first gas-steam combined cycle power project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Among them, the Unit 3 gas turbine generator successfully achieved its first grid connection on September 22. To ensure the smooth grid connection of Unit 4, the plant worked closely with all commissioning units to promote the closed-loop work of equipment defect elimination, power monitoring feedback problems, and hidden risks elimination for Unit 4. During the start-up, the operators meticulously followed the start-up plan, and completed a series of tests with stability and high quality, including excitation system testing (self-excitation), main transformer substation charging test, and rotor AC impedance measurement. During the grid connection operation, the operators strictly followed the standardized procedures to complete the system operation, ensuring that each procedure was connected in an orderly manner, with turbine starting at a constant speed, pre-grid connection tests and grid connection and other critical tasks achieving 100% success at the first attempt. With the safe and steady operation of the unit equipment after the grid connection, key operational indicators regarding unit vibration and bush temperature were superior to technical specifications, guaranteeing the unit’s readiness for operation under load.

As the Unit 4 gas turbine generator is connected to the grid successfully, the countdown to the production of all four units of the plant has begun. The plant will continue with grid connection testing for Unit 4, aiming to achieve 168 hours of full-load trial operation and striving to have dual units fully produced by the end of October.
