On May 16, China's first 10,850-tonne methanol dual-fuel integrated electric propulsion bulk carrier for inland waterway shipping, the "CHN Energy Changjiang 01" (HC-A2304), was successfully launched, marking the completion of the vessel's main structure and the beginning of equipment commissioning and delivery preparations, and signifying a new step forward for the Shipping Company in its efforts to green and intelligent shipbuilding on the Yangtze River.

The "CHN Energy Changjiang 01" represents a significant initiative by the Shipping Company to advance its Yangtze River shipping layout, implement the dual carbon strategy, and support high-quality development along the Yangtze Economic Belt. It sets a benchmark for the green and intelligent shipbuilding on the Yangtze River and the modernization of major equipment. Designed for operations in the Chuanjiang River and Three Gorges Reservoir area, the vessel measures 130 meters in length, 16.26 meters in width, and 7.98 meters in depth, with a designed cargo capacity of 10,850 tonnes. The vessel is well-suited to the unique operational conditions of the Yangtze River, which vary greatly by season, route and power requirement in upstream and downstream. Compared to mechanically propelled ships of similar size, it is expected to save 26% on fuel costs and reduce carbon emissions by 11%.

Starting construction on June 29, 2023, the vessel was launched on May 16, 2024, and is expected to be officially delivered by the end of June 2024. The Shipping Company will continue to innovate in the integrated operation of inland waterway shipping on the Yangtze River, following new development concepts and exploring the application of green and intelligent vessels for inland waterways powered by pure batteries and hydrogen energy.
