The APEC Port Services Network (APSN) hosted the APEC Smart Port Development Forum under the theme of developing smart ports and boosting connectivity of the supply chain on November 16. At the forum, the APSN announced the awardees of its Green Port Award System (GPAS). Huanghua Port won the 2021 APSN Green Port Award.
The GPAS program is a green evaluation standard and development guidance for ports in the APEC region developed by the APSN. It is an innovative and pioneering mechanism that can encourage the development of green port certification in the APEC community. Covering green port development strategy and action plan, funding support, the application of eco-friendly and energy-saving technologies and environment management system, the program aims to prompt the APEC ports community to achieve constant progress in environmental protection.
Over the past years, Huanghua Port has been following a development approach of promoting harmony among man, port and nature. It has been working to build an eco-friendly green port from the source. It was the first Chinese port to employ silo cleaning process and has built the world’s largest siloes for coal storage. The port has developed many innovative technologies in environmental protection and made breakthroughs in pollution treatment. It has built a smart management and control platform for environmental protection, making it the first one in the industry, so as to realize the comprehensive monitoring and sophisticated management and control of environmental elements.
